OS one5 - A more Personal Computer


Update: PCBSD will be used as base for this project.

Low Cost Boards, like Qotom PICO ITX X86 based on Atom X5 is the target hardware to run OS one5

The project should focus on RAM use optimization for first istance it seem that also if very huge processors

are given to Light, RAM is still an issue of this class of mobile Processors.

OS one5 is a Concept for a customized PCBSD distribuition targeting Low Cost

but powerful < 15W TDP CPU/GPU.

The hardware where it run is commercially available board, possibily boxed with a price tag of 50$.


This OS is specially crafted to be used in conjunction with low cost hardware as:

  • Personal Computer system for the developing country
  • Home computer in developed area for the young Kids
  • Low Power Office Computer for Public Administrations
  • Personal Computer for medium-aged and aged person

As the Stars in this multiple system,

I have 5 profiles (A, B, C, D, E), with customization of the user interface and the installed programs:

  • A - Home Computer with Games and Edutainment for young user 5-8 years old
  • B - Home Computer with Games and Edutainment for young user 9-15 years old
  • C - Personal Computer with friendly customizations for medium Aged Peoples 65 to 75
  • D - Personal Computer with friendly customizations for Aged Peoples 75 and up
  • E - Ecological Office Machine primarly target for Public Administration

Other profiles are outside of the OS one5 mission, PCBSD or FreeBSD do a great job already

as a general Desktop OS.



The Concept of OS one5, was born during the 2014, as a natural move to fill the gap between Personal Computer and the (currently dead) Home Computers. There was a time infact when young kids was playing games and did hacking on machines, their first programs, or just learn how real computers works, and this was done on very affordable prices machines compared with the standard of the past age.

We stongly believe in a possible reborn of Home Computer, and this from our point of view, need very little help to be realized...

To do a more personal computer (for the variuos supported profiles) where kids can again sit bellow the Home TV or their room TV to do real learning of computers, use computers not just only consolle and tablets. Not to criticize the current behaviour, but many young studends or kids, still can't have access to computers for cost reason or because all parents point to tablets or phones or locked consolle purchase today. Then Phones or Tablet in the hand of young kids breack very easily, the consolle are driving often bad learing attitude with violent games and they are totally locked. Further more, there is small range or edutainment on them.

We strongly belive in the immortality and the foundation of a UNIX system even in the form of small home computers. Beside this, we are  trying to give access to Operating System that respect freedoms, users freedoms and this should be a worldwide possibility, of course including all the developing country like Africa and all the others, even to kids and old peoples.

Beeing a Computer system with many profiles of use, targeting at 5 typical profiles, it can be configured to have a more eyecandy graphics for kids while have the rigorous themes with large fonts to whom is not capable to use or read fluently the computers of today, with really useful default links on the installed browsers, classical newspapers, cooking recipes, magnification, magnification default factor in browsers all set up for aged peoples.

Yes, Computers are restricted even in the developed area to old peoples, for their unfriedly-ness, they simply are not shaped for them. I am not sure we can do better but we can try.

Lastly the machines we targeted are extremely low cost machines, but with very huge power,

comparable to today company refurbished PC's or new entry level notebooks.

I imagine a possible scenery of use in Africa where one 32 inch TV powered with solar panels and batteries is shared between many family.

Regarding the codebase and the base OS layer to customize.

OS one5 is a public project sustained exclusively from volunteers,
